 How to: Macintosh OS 8.0 & 9.x

Use the directions below to create a new remote access connection for
the Macintosh 8.0 and Macintosh 9.x operating systems.

1]

Click Apple Menu, then select Internet Access, and click Internet Setup Assistant.

In some newer versions of Mac OS 9.0, the Internet Setup Assistant can be found by opening your Hard Drive Icon (usually located in upper right of your desktop), and then clicking on the Internet Folder.

2]

Click Yes to begin.

3]

Click Yes to continue.

4]

Click the Right Arrow to continue.

This tutorial will provide all the details as being discussed above.

5]

Type BAMnet as the configuration name, click on Modem, click the Right Arrow to continue.

6]

Select appropriate options, then click the Right Arrow to continue.

7]

Enter phone number, username and password, then click the Right Arrow to continue.

This is the username and password that you created when signing up for BAMnet. Add "@bamnet" to the end of your user name. For example username@bamnet. Important: do not add ".com" to the end of @bamnet - this will not work!

Visit our Dial-Up Number page and choose your desired dialup number. Enter the number in the space as shown above.

Notes: If dialing our U.S. 1-800 number, enter the entire number as 1-800-737-7530. If dialing one of our non-800 style numbers (see list), use the calling format that works for the area you are in. For example, if no area code is required when dialing, you might only need XXX-XXXX as the number to dial. Each country/state have their own calling formats. For more information on calling patterns including access from Hotels, visit our Helpful Tips section in the upper right corner of this page.

8]

Select No, then click the Right Arrow to continue.

9]

Select No, then click the Right Arrow to continue.

10]

Leave the DNS input box empty. Enter bamnet.net as the domain name, then click the Right Arrow to continue.

Upon your connection to BAMnet, we automatically set the DNS information.

11]

Do you have an E-mail address? Enter your e-mail address and the password that you normally would use for collecting your e-mail. Click the Right Arrow to continue.

BAMnet does not offer e-mail addresses. The e-mail address being entered above would be the "POP3" style e-mail address that you primarily have been using. If you are using an "HTML" based e-mail address such as with Hotmail.com or Yahoo.com e-mail services, you can leave these options blank.

12]

If you have a POP3 style e-mail address, enter the server location where you normally would collect your e-mail. Enter smtp.bamnet.com as the SMTP server, click the Right Arrow to continue.

Where do I find the BAMnet Connection?
Choose Internet from the Apple Menu and select Connect To...

Upon a successful modem connection, open either Internet Explorer or Netscape and start browsing the Internet. When finished browsing, please remember to disconnect from BAMnet.
